ITALIA/AUTORITRATTO_2008
ITALY/SELF-PORTRAIT
iron plate partially oxidized 25x15,8 cm
and pre-spaced PVC lettering 20x100 cm
A “self-made man”, this is how I see Italy today.
In the 80’s/90’s this statement has been used for people who made sacrifices achieving good results in their life.
With the passing of time this statement has assumed a negative connotation because of the social conditions worsening and the lost of the moral models.
A "self-made Italy" is therefore also the result of those years, of those excesses and of those models which are now in crisis.
Today Italy is still self –made but with the same old mistakes.
This is the reason why it is still leaving in a stalemate, in "oxidation."
The shape of the oxidized country in which I live has really made everything by itself, in the sense that I only have prepared everything so that the time and the bad weather did "self-portrait" of the present situation.
VISTO SI STAMPI_2009
Ready to be printed
C-print
“Noble” waste materials in a photographic studio. Proofs which are taken before the printing are often selections of larger images and they show technical signs which cannot be found in the lastversions of the images.
I kept these technical signs and references on the images; the author can be only identified by small elements of each image.

My friend’s grandmother stored her photographs under her bad in order to protect them and to
keep memory of past events, but her photographs have not been protected from the passing of time, which cancelled the faces from her pictures and damaged them.
However, memories can be traced thanks to those pictures. My reflection is about the passing of the time: time deletes memory and it also enables to remember
(Pictures gradually fade away, even though we preserve them in order to remember).
INSTAX 200_2008
instant film 6,2x9,9 cm
Instax 200 is the name of Fuji instant film.
This is also the name of the cameras every roses seller has got in Milan.
You can meet the roses sellers in the most popular and trendy places.
They usually propose to sell you a rose and than to take a picture.
A souvenir snapshot.
Whenever a roses seller offers to sell me a photo, I accept.
After the negotiation I invert the roles and take a picture of him becoming an " occasional reporter ".
My reportage becomes dependent on them and their camera. An inverted photo feature.
BINARIO/BITONALE_2008
BINARY/BITONAL
picture 92k
sound 7 hours
The computer as a "compressor" or better as a container "homogenizer".
A kind of universal box where what enters/is put in acquires the same nature.
The same code to all media: numbers.
Each media, taken to the zero degree can be converted or interpreted.
With a recognized and common way of reading, you can reduce the first photographic imagine "View from the window at Le Gras" by Niépce in binary code,
and then "play" (dial) the primary digital element with a mobile phone keyboard.
The first photographic image becomes a basic two-tone sound sequence, the zero 0 and the one 1, without any interpretation but just choosing different parameters of reading the same code.
A translation.
